Final project rewiew

I think i did very well on my fall project. it was very fun to see all of my classmates be patient and laugh. at first i was nervous about getting a good grade but after actually doing it i am confident in what i will get. i have improved a lot over the year so far. I have gone from being shy to a outstanding person to me fellow classmate. It was fun  working with each of them and getting to know them on a better and more personal level. I am saddened that this will be my last time working with them. It was a lot of fun and i wish i could do it all over again. But i keep my head up for i am taking this class for the next half of the year and i hope i can make new friends and work with them a swell. But for now i must focus on the present for my classmates still haven't don their projects yet and i am willing to put in my best effort so they can get a good grade. i remember when i first walked into the class, shocked to see there was only 4 of us! Then a few days in pat sadly left put we then gained Gia! she has been very nice to me and i really appreciate that! I loved working with her and hope we can continue our new friendship.Josh was also a lot of fun to work with, even though some days he was a bit negative, but once we got started he cheered up. And i wasn't able to work with Victoria a lot but when i did she was a blast, and a great camera man! I hope they also get good grades on their finals. So far i have done many projects, from being a pirate to being very upset about my chicken tetrizini, i have had a lot of fun experiences during this course! So even though this class is ending i can look back to all the good times we had! It was also fun watching as my classmates grew their acting skills and was funny to see them fail sometimes, kinda how josh did that super deep voice during my final and it made us all laugh! But no matter what happened i always looked forward toward acting class because of all the experiences that have come out of it! And i hope with these new skills, going into the next half wont be too hard and i will be able to teach my new classmates what i have learned and bond and make new friendships! If it wasn't for the constant help i got from my classmates i might not be where i am right now skill wise, they helped my project my voice to the audience and make me remember my lines. They also helped with how i should say or look. So i say thank you to my classmates for making me the actor i am today!

Progress on final project

So far it have been fun this year, I am saddened that I won't be able to work with them again this year. This class has brought me closer to my new friends hat I did not know before this class( except for josh) and I hope they do well on their projects, any let's talk about what I have been up too! So far the final project is almost done. I have a,most perfectly memorized my lines, still a little rough though but I am working to fix that. I am also almost done with the staging as well. I just need to figure out how I will interact with the others in this scene. I believe that I will be ready by Tuesday to perform. I believe this to be true because of the following. I do need to work on raising my voice and projecting it out the audience and I also need to make sure that the staging is set so I can make it clear what is going on to the audience. I also need to make it clear to the audience what emotion I am feeling and I think I got that down! But so far it has been going goood and I have been making great progress. I hope to finish this semester on a good note! I believe that this activity will bring my grade up to a b- and also show off my acting skill to my fellow classmates and hopefully the teacher as well. I also hope that I can see my friends in other classes or in free time. But no matter what happens I have had a good time in this class and I hope this continues into the 3rd and 4th semesters/ second half of year.

Progress on final

So far I have made many improvements, such as figuring out what I want to do and memorization. Other than that there hasn't been any other work done but I am working on it in class and at home like editing the script and learning the staging. So far it's been fun and I'm excited to perform the scene.

Reflection on second scene

So far the progress on the second scene has been slow, but we are getting better! At first I didn't really like the scene, not being able to relate to the characters and the setting. But the more we practiced our lines i have built a connection and I am enjoying it more. So far we are doing a good job on the scene its self. We know what we are going to do, where to walk and sit, and what times to do it. But we are having trouble remembering our lines because the ways its written and how long it is make it complicated. But a way we are going to fix this is by writing down the script in a google docs and editing the script so its easier to understand and remember. Another thing we need to work on is emotion. We arnt really expressing our self's when talking, we are just reading the script in a regular voice and arnt emphasizing the emotion. But we are able to get down the pauses. This is very different from my first scene though. In my first scene I was a pirate, the script was short and I knew how to say thing and how to act. But in this I really dont have much information on the characters, how they would react and what their personality's. Another thing thats different is that in the first scene I was the only one acting (except Victoria who just stood there pretending to be a girl pirate) but in this one I share dialogue with Victoria. Although we arnt the best at the scene right now I believe that soon we will have it down, and I am very excited to see how Josh and Gia do on their scenes.

Fall Play Reveiw

James Joyce's "The Dead" was very interesting, I think that over all it was very well done. A huge part of the story was around the quote "The world ... is like the surface of a frozen lake. We walk along, we slip; we try to keep our balance and not to fall. One day there's a crack, and so we learn that underneath us is - an unimaginable depth." and is said two or three times through out the play. The actors did very good, they remembered their lines and din't hesitate. Some other things that they did well was the time it took to transition scenes, we were asked to leave the theater so they could set up the stage and it only took five to ten minutes and I was truly shocked how quick it was and how when the actors entered they turned off the lights so they could get into position,  then jump right into it making it feel like I never left. Something they could have done better was indicating that we were in a flashback. when we were in a flash back the only way to realize this was to see the characters frozen in place and only Gabriel talking. What they could have done was have a spot light follow Gabriel or have the light turn a light blue, so the watcher can see clearly whats happening. But I think they did well with what they had and it was very entertaining to watch. I was expecting it to be a little more serious but I was glad at some moments it made me laugh. I was also impressed how they set up the audience, you could either be low and close to see the reaction and emotion of the characters up close or watch from far up to see the whole set better, I choose the eagle eye view because it helped me understand the scenes better, and I also liked how they positioned the set making it easy for the actors to move around while also making it realistic. In total, I believe the Fall play was a success.

Debate, how I think we did

I think it was a great idea to film it so we had to ability to see what we did wrong. I think that looking back we did very good, but it still needs work. I think we do a good job of staying in character and for the most part remember our lines. I think Gia needs to work on her lines a little more, see sometimes pauses becuse she forgets what she needs to say, and Victoria could work on speaking louder and having a bigger reaction to Donald trumps racism. I need to also review my lines and speak louder. But over all I think we did ok.

Silent movie review

Over all I think that the silent movie went great. We worked together to find out what was best and cooperated all the way through. At the beginning we discussed on what we should make the movie about, after a day of chooseing our options we decided on the best one that wasn't too hard to make. During the production we first decided what we would do and how we would do it, such as how the "car" got moved. When we figured this all out we finally got a camera and shot the footage. We spent the following day editing until we were happy with the results. I think I contributed by helping set up the scenes and gave my own opinion how we should take on that scene. Something we could have done to improve was doing a better job of getting josh out of frame when he was pushing the "car". Another thing that would have helped make this movie better would be if we mad it more clear what was going on and made the plot easier for the watcher the follow. When it comes to contributing I think no one person was better than the other, we all put out our ideas so that we could find a medium that we could agree on. We all did our best in the end, and I think we all helped each other else so that the production of this movie would go smoothly. I also think that we all did good acting and that if we are to do another project like this we will do great. In all I think we all did great for making our first silent move and that we can use this experience to improve and become better at this in the future.

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

My experience in this class so far has been amazing. Last week while doing the movement activity we all improved over the course of each class and took advice from each other. This really helped improve our performance in my opinion. This week we are working on a silent movie, so far we have thought of doing a silly scene with a man in a rush barely missing an old lady, but the old lady pretends to get hit so the man gets arrested and she can get his wallet. I really enjoy working on activities that require teamwork because it helps me trust my fellow classmates. This teamwork has helped us work on these projects but we do need to work on how we express our ideas because sometimes we interrupt each other and don't take the other person opinion to heart. So far this class hasn't been too hard, it's been easy for me to act and remember my lines. I think what is hardest for me is how I express myself when I act and how I show who my character is and what his personality is like. I feel that I can improve this performance if I take my classmates criticism and advice and build off that so I can become a better actor. Another thing I think we as a group need to work on is how we work together, sometimes we start doing our own thing when we should be coordinating our ideas and plan to the whole group instead of just one other person. So far I think we have incredible progress in class and know what we are going to do and I also believe that we have all connected to each other and have formed friendships not only in class but outside of class.

My Monolouge experience

Doing this Monolouge I was able to get to know and see everyone's acting style. This was a great experience and I think everyone did well. Now let's talk about my Monolouge. I was told to try and do a pirates voice but I can't do one. But I was able to make up for if by showing emotion in my body  movement. I did always struggle with the ending, but I think that at the end I did ok. Now back to my classmates. I think they all did well and I liked how Gia took our advice and acted more scared when about to hit the bottom. Josh also did well, and after some relieve really made it look like he was trying to hide from the paparazzi. And Victoria was amazing with that child voice. She went slow and paused to think really making it look like a child was trying to present. In the end I think we were all able to really make our Monolouges personal, the way we changed it a bit and how we acted it. This experience was fun and useful.

Monologue

Lesson 1... no baths, no washing, no cleaning up

Pirate's take pride in their stench. It's like a contest or something. If you're the only one who smells good, it's rough. It's better to blend in the bad smells... If someones out of tune, it throws off the balance.

Lesson number... the next one... You have to stop being so girly. Female pirates are the roughest, toughest, leanest, meanest human beings to ever travel the sea. If a male steals one gold, you steal two. If a male cuts off one finger, you cut off two. Be better or be dead!

Blog #2

My experience these past two weeks has been very interesting. I first thought the class would have a lot of people. I also thought that we would be doing plays or reading scripts. But to my surprise it was a small class which gave me the opportunity to get to know everyone on a personal level. The class has us do activities.  These activities help us become better actors/actresses and are really fun. I enjoy the exercises where we interact with each other but find the exercises on the iPads boring. It was hard to do the improve exercises because I struggle to think of what to do. However, I enjoy the silly activities. For example, the commercial where we had to sell a product. So far I am enjoying the class and the people in it. I hope that we keep doing activities with a lot of interaction with classmates, so I can have fun and strengthen our relationships. I didn't enjoy looking for a monologue because quietly browsing the internet didn't feel like it had anything to do with acting. I love acting but I don't enjoy writing. I have a difficult time expressing myself in words. I find that I run out of things to say.  It has been only been two weeks so there isn't much to talk about. So I am struggling with the blogging aspect of the class (as you know).  Hopefully, this will be come easier with practice.  But if there is something I want to learn in this class is how to be better at improvising and how to get rid of stage fright.

Who I am

Hi, my name is Jake Polanski and I am in acting class. Something to know about me is that I ski during the winter in Vermont. As a child my mom and dad called my "total drama Jake" becuse of my favorite show "total drama island". Over the summer a few years ago I went to a camp for to weeks and stayed with my grandparents. During this trip I learned game coding and acting. At the end of the course we did a play in front of our parents (I was the only boy in the class). The reason I'm doing acting class is becuse I really enjoy being on stage becuse it's fun to act and get to know new people. And to know what goes on backstage can make you apretiate other plays more.

Class

When we did our scenes today we learned that a scene with separate objectives and no interaction are less exciting to watch. But when you have a objective where you interact with the other actors /actresses you have a lot more dialogue and excitement. I hope we do more activitys like this one becuse it was fun.
